STI Testing and Sexual Health Care in Markham and Scarborough

Sexual health care is a routine part of looking after your health. Whether you have symptoms, a new partner or a possible exposure, an assessment can help identify the right tests and timing. Contact Warden Wood Health Centre to discuss sexual health appointments and testing arrangements.

When to consider STI testing

Many sexually transmitted infections cause no noticeable symptoms. Testing may be appropriate after a possible exposure, when starting a new relationship or when symptoms such as discharge, sores, burning urination or pelvic discomfort occur. There is no single test that checks for every STI.

What happens during a sexual health visit?

Your clinician discusses your concerns without judgement and asks questions relevant to your health and exposure. Testing may involve urine, blood or swabs from specific sites. Tell the clinician about oral or anal exposure so testing can be selected appropriately.

Some infections are not detectable immediately after exposure. You may need an initial test and later repeat testing. If a result is positive, your clinician can explain treatment, partner notification and follow-up. Care is confidential within applicable privacy law; certain infections must be reported to public health.

When exposure needs immediate advice

After a possible HIV exposure, seek urgent medical advice immediately because preventive treatment is time-sensitive. Severe pelvic or testicular pain also needs urgent assessment.

STI testing FAQs

Should I test if I feel well?

Possibly. Many infections are silent, so testing decisions depend on exposure and individual risk.

Does a routine blood test check for all STIs?

No. Specific tests must be requested, and some infections require urine or swabs.

Is testing anonymous?

Confidential care is different from anonymous testing. Ask about clinic procedures and dedicated anonymous-testing services if needed.

How do I receive results?

Confirm the clinic’s result process before leaving. Do not assume that no contact means every result is negative.
