Warden Wood Health Centre
Preventive Health Checks and Cancer Screening in Markham and Scarborough
Preventive care helps identify health risks and review screening before symptoms develop. At Warden Wood Health Centre, a preventive visit can focus on your history, current risks and which tests or lifestyle discussions are appropriate for you.
What a preventive health review covers
Topics may include blood pressure, medications, tobacco use, activity, nutrition, mental health, vaccinations and family history. Not everyone needs the same blood tests or a full physical examination every year. Screening should reflect your age, medical history and personal preferences.
Cancer screening and follow-up
Ontario has organized programs for breast, cervical, colorectal and eligible high-risk lung screening. Depending on eligibility, screening may involve mammography, HPV-based cervical testing, a stool test or low-dose CT through the appropriate service.
Your doctor can help explain benefits, limitations and follow-up. Many tests take place outside the clinic. A screening result is not the same as a diagnosis, and an abnormal result often means further assessment is needed rather than that cancer is confirmed.
Symptoms need assessment rather than routine screening
A new breast lump, unexplained bleeding, persistent bowel change or unexplained weight loss should be discussed promptly. Do not wait until your next screening invitation if symptoms appear.
Preventive care FAQs
Do I need an annual physical?
Your preventive care plan should be individualized. Discuss which visits, examinations and tests are useful for your circumstances.
Can I request every available cancer test?
More testing is not always better. Appropriate screening considers evidence, eligibility, possible harms and your preferences.
Are screening tests performed at the clinic?
Some assessments may be, while imaging and laboratory tests are commonly arranged elsewhere. Confirm the specific service.
What if I have a strong family history of cancer?
Tell your clinician which relatives were affected and their ages at diagnosis. Your screening or referral plan may differ.
