Newborn Checkups and Well Baby Care in Markham and Scarborough
Regular baby visits give parents a place to discuss feeding, growth, sleep and development. Warden Wood Health Centre lists newborn and well-baby care within its family medicine services. Contact your preferred branch to arrange ongoing care and confirm the timing of the first visit after discharge.
What well-baby appointments cover
Visits may include measurements of weight, length and head circumference, a physical examination and discussion of developmental milestones. Your clinician can review feeding, wet diapers, stool patterns, safe sleep, immunizations and concerns raised since the previous visit.
Growth is interpreted over time rather than from one measurement alone. Share any changes in feeding or behaviour, even if you are unsure whether they matter.
Preparing for your baby’s first appointment
Bring birth and discharge information, newborn screening details, medication or supplement information and an immunization record if one has started. Note feeding frequency, wet diapers and questions you would like to discuss.
Your clinician can help coordinate follow-up for jaundice, feeding difficulties or other issues identified by the birth team. Some problems require a same-day assessment or referral rather than waiting until the next well-baby appointment.
When newborn symptoms cannot wait
A temperature of 38°C or higher in a baby younger than three months needs urgent assessment. Poor feeding, fewer wet diapers, breathing difficulty, unusual sleepiness or worsening jaundice also needs prompt medical advice.
Newborn and well-baby FAQs
When should my baby have a first checkup?
Follow the birth team’s discharge plan and arrange care promptly. Timing depends on feeding, weight and any identified concerns.
Can I discuss breastfeeding or formula feeding?
Yes. Bring your feeding questions so support can be tailored without judgement.
Will vaccines be given at every visit?
No. Immunizations follow an age-based schedule and your baby’s individual history.
Should I wait for a scheduled visit if my baby seems unwell?
No. Contact a healthcare professional promptly; fever in a young infant requires urgent assessment.
