Skin Rash, Eczema and Dermatitis Treatment in Markham and Scarborough
An itchy or irritated rash can affect sleep, comfort and confidence. Eczema and contact dermatitis are common causes, but infections, allergies and medication reactions can look similar. A skin assessment helps identify the likely cause and choose suitable treatment.
Common rash and eczema symptoms
Dryness, itching, inflamed patches, cracking or changes in skin colour may occur. Inflammation can look red, purple, grey or darker than the surrounding skin depending on skin tone. Tell your doctor about new skin products, jewellery, gloves, workplace exposures and recently started medications.
How skin rashes are assessed and treated
Your clinician examines the affected area and reviews the pattern, duration and triggers. A sample or referral may be considered if infection or another condition is suspected. Treatment may include regular fragrance-free moisturizer, avoiding a trigger or a prescribed topical medicine.
Steroid creams differ in strength, and the face, skin folds and children need particular care. Use a prescribed product only as directed. Take photos of changing rashes and bring a list of products already tried.
When a rash needs urgent attention
Fever with a rapidly spreading rash, skin peeling, mouth sores, severe pain or a rash after a new medication needs prompt assessment. Facial swelling or breathing difficulty is an emergency.
Rash and eczema FAQs
Is eczema contagious?
Eczema itself is not contagious. Some skin infections that resemble eczema can spread.
Should I stop moisturizing during a flare?
Moisturizing is often part of eczema care, but choose a suitable product and seek advice if it burns or worsens irritation.
Can I use the same cream on my face?
Not automatically. The correct product and strength depend on the body area and diagnosis.
What if my rash keeps returning?
A review can look for ongoing exposures, infection or a condition needing a longer-term plan.
